Who We Are

The Moms of Untethered Childhood started as, and continues to also be, a book club of twelve then-kindergarten moms in Lyons, Colorado. What began as a search for good reads and a space for lighthearted chat evolved into a spirited forum of exchange—where podcast highlights and thought-provoking articles were as eagerly shared as our favorite literary plots. Naturally, concerns for our growing children were a theme, and the impact of smart phones and social media on our children's development quickly struck a nerve across our group. Our casual text thread turned into a plan to commit to something better for the children of our small community.

We saw a need for action in our community. And so, "Untethered Childhood" was conceived—not in boardrooms or think tanks, but around kitchen tables and within the margins of our group chat.

As founders of Untethered Childhood, we're a friendly cohort on a mission: to give our kids the gift of growing up without the pressure of smartphones and social media until they're 16. It's about letting them have a childhood filled with face-to-face friendships, outdoor explorations, and the freedom to just be kids.

We're not claiming to have all the answers, but we're committed to asking the right questions and encouraging other parents in our community to join us in this pledge. We're building a childhood that's rich with experiences, not likes and shares.

So, from our book club to your family, we invite you to explore what an Untethered Childhood could mean for the kids of Lyons—and maybe turn a few pages back to the simplicity of our own childhoods along the way.
